Yeah heat rises, so setting it on end lets it dissipate better. Putting it on it's side creates a pocket of trapped heat underneath, that's why laptop coolers always prop it up at an angle so the heat can drift out xD But I mean every 360 is bound to do this sooner or later.
the case is rusty, id say it was in a fire and found outside after it rained, not like that because it started on fire....look at all the variables...besides plastic moves down when it melts it was laying flat when it happened
